Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 2012 In the teaching context of Van Noi High School in Dong Anh, Ha Noi, the adaptation of reading tasks in the textbook Tieng Anh 12 is necessary because teaching and learning reading is not usually efficient. The students hardly read the reading texts and did the following tasks seriously because they had difficulty understanding the texts and they did not like English, either. This mini action research was conducted in order to Giúp students of all levels to get more involved in reading, so that they could improve both their reading skills and reading comprehension through task adaptation. Survey questionnaire was the main instrument of data collection which was delivered to 41 grade-12 students to collect their opinions about reading tasks in the textbook and their habit of reading texts and doing reading tasks. Based on the data, the reading tasks were adapted and group work was implemented then pilot teaching was employed to check their effectiveness. The results indicated that most of the adapted tasks were suitable to their levels and they were excited to work in groups. Besides, the unsuitable tasks should be changed in the future. Finally, some suggestions and implications for teaching reading comprehension, task adaptation and grouping students were offered to support students’ reading comprehension at Van Noi High School Electronic Resources |
