Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 2012 This study aimed to examine the tenth form teachers at Doan Thuong Upper-secondary School’s perceptions of and attitudes towards exploiting authentic supplementary tasks in speaking lessons and the students’ attitudes towards the effects of the authentic supplementary tasks on their speaking skill. The data were collected by means of questionnaire and classroom observation. Results indicated that the teachers had positive attitudes towards using authentic supplementary tasks in their speaking lessons and the significant effects of the tasks are recognized and agreed upon by most of the students. Moreover, some difficulties that the teachers encountered when applying the tasks were also revealed.
