Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 2012 This thesis is an attempt to explore the applications of mind mapping to teaching vocabulary to the first year non-English major students at Bac Giang University of Agriculture and Forestry, using the coursebook New Cutting Edge (Elementary). Quantitative method was employed to survey 90 students by a questionnaire. Besides, short interviews are also supplementary methods to give comments and discussion on the survey data. The findings of the research show that mind mapping can be used in many different ways such as helping students brainstorm the new topics; summarize the main points of the lesson and take note during the lesson. Moreover, with the data collected, it is shown that students recognize the benefits that mind mapping brings in learning their vocabulary.
