Vietnam National University, Hanoi, 2013 The researcher conducted a study on raising 2nd-year students’ awareness of collocation in writing through the Collocation Awareness Raising (CAR) Process because they were largely unaware of this important issue. The researcher’s underlying aim was to examine the extent to which the CAR Process raised the participants’ awareness of collocation in their writing process, the difficulties perceived by them as they went through the process and the reasons for the difficulties. Once the theoretical background for the study was finalized, the researcher began designing the data collection instruments, which included a recognition test, a production test, a survey questionnaire and semi-structured interviews.
