However, up to now teaching and learning ESP for students of physics at Thai Nguyen University of Education (TUE) have not had an appropriate syllabus. For this reason, the main purpose of this study was to design an ESP reading syllabus for the third-year students of physics at TUE. To design a reading syllabus for the third-year students of physics at TUE, needs analysis will be conducted by means of document analysis, interviews and questionnaires in order to collect information about students’ learning needs and target needs. This information will be collected from various resources such as document, textbooks, English texts, students and teachers at TUE. The main finding of this study is that all the students, teachers will agree on the topics related to the students’ specialist subject. The findings may also provide an understanding of the students’ expectation, difficulties, purposes and learning strategies.
