To fulfill this objective, ten pieces of English economics news were selected and analyzed. The research is not concerned with all the aspects of information focus. Since the investigation is just carried out in written discourse, syntactic features of the information focus is taken into consideration. From the analysis, syntactic strategies in assigning information focus are identified and explained. Based on the findings, the thesis provides some implications for teaching ESP and gives some suggestions for types of exercises and further research.
