| Miêu tả: | The topic of the thesis is resulted from what several teachers at Viet-Hung Industrial University have generally said about the poor performance of students of the University in speaking. There seems to be a lack of interest or motivation among them to participate in English speaking lessons. Being a teacher of English, the author would like to investigate the reasons for the students’ inhibition and unwillingness to work in speaking lessons, and hope to be able to make some recommendations that can Giúp the students overcome them with the hope of making students of the University better at English in general and speaking skill in particular. This research investigates factors, which might account for students’ lack of interest in speaking lessons. In order to meet the objectives of the study, two different groups of participants are taken into investigation, 150 students of K35 of Banking and Financing Faculty and 14 teachers of English at the University. Two sets of questionnaires are designed, one for students and the other is for teachers. The author also conducts semi-structured interviews with some teachers to get further information. Then the data are analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study show that most students are conscious of the importance of learning to speak English, but the majority of them are not interested in English speaking lessons. The study also finds out the factors that cause students’ unwillingness to take part in English speaking lessons as well as suggests some solutions to reduce them Electronic Resources M.A. Thesis.
