| Miêu tả: | The study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the application of a discourse-based approach in teaching English reading skill at Thanh Hoa Vocational School of Commerce-Tourism. The specific objectives of the study are: To find out changes in the attitude of students at Thanh Hoa Vocational School of Commerce-Tourism after applying a discourse-based approach in teaching English reading skill; And to investigate what extent the application of a discourse-based approach helps students at Thanh Hoa Vocational School of Commerce-Tourism read better. The action research procedure was carried out with 35 first-year students of cooking technique major from the same class and two English teachers as observers and a teacher of the course, the effectiveness of the course were investigated through the comparison between the pre-test and the two post-tests, questionnaires for 35 students and teachers’ observation. This application of a discourse-based approach has brought about positive results for the students at elementary level of English. From findings and discussion, the implications for teaching English reading skill applied discourse-based approach were suggested and the conclusions were drawn Electronic Resources M.A. Thesis.
